Tucked away behind our pub is a true hidden gem, the courtyard garden. What was once just a plain car park has been transformed into a vibrant and welcoming space full of colour.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of our head gardener Michael and housekeeper Lynne, the garden now offers a peaceful spot for guests to unwind, enjoy a drink, or soak up some sunshine surrounded by beautiful plants and flowers.
The journey to create this garden hasn’t been without its challenges. From uncovering old stable footings to replacing hard tarmac with rich soil, Michael and Lynne’s passion and determination have turned the space into something truly special.
Want to hear their story? Watch the full interview below, where they share insights into the garden’s design, its history, and the care that goes into maintaining our little oasis at The Black Bear. You can also read Jerry, the owner's, blog post about the garden here.
